Sculpture

Edward Hartwig was never involved in classically understood photographic reproduction of works of art. However, his archive and artistic output include many pictures of sculptures. Some of them became famous and were reproduced, for instance, in "Fotografika". These are most often photos showing fragments of statues, sculptures, often public space facilities - they rarely present full objects. If such appear, they are mostly famous series of park sculptures, covered with a film (for the winter period or due to renovation), which are determined as "surrealistic" threads visible in Hartwig's art. This type of interpretation seems to be some kind of abuse, but pictures of sculptures say a lot about the way he viewed and perceived the world – each of its elements might become a valuable motif for taking a picture. Any possible beauty of artistically photographed sculptures is not important, unless it can be used as an interesting visual element of a photographic composition. Hartwig noticed and processed works of art.
